Rene Atienza—the founder and vision keeper—the history of the group was revisited, and the By-Laws were reviewed. Records of the finances are also non-existent with the loss of the late Rene Atienza’s personal computer.
DISSOLUTION OF CB GLOBAL’S CORPORATE REGISTRATION WITH THE SEC PHILIPPINES:
Motion passed that we dissolve the corporate registration of CBGlobal in the Philippines and that finances be handled on a line item in the Pacific Church Network.
Each country representative gave an affirmative vote with Japan abstaining.
Rey Avante, through CBAP, will facilitate the dissolution from SEC.
Pastor Jim Smith will seek approval of the PCN board for incorporating CBGlobal as a partner. This is for the purpose of including CBGlobal finances in the accounting system of PCN.
The group of representatives reconstituted themselves as a leadership council of CBGlobal that will plan activities for the network.
NEXT CB GLOBAL CONFERENCE:
Motion passed that we hold the next conference in Japan in conjunction with Japan’s 50th anniversary celebration on the dates tentatively set: September 15 – 17, 2024. Japan delegates will inform the body of the result of their consultation with their leadership on this matter.
COUNTRY REPORTS AND SHARING TIME:
Effect of COVID pandemic on the churches.
Taiwan: Church attendance dropped by 30%. Even after COVID, attendance has not recovered. Many migrated out of Taiwan.
Myanmar: Lost 164 (churches) to COVID. The military coup came after COVID, which caused a worse effect among the churches. Most of the churches in the rural areas dissolved as people fled from villages that were militarized. The persecution increased the prayer life of the church.
Macau: 3 churches. Macau is a well-controlled city in terms of the pandemic. The COVID pandemic did not impact the population. The strength of churches is in teaching and caring. Challenge that the church is changing.
Hong Kong: There were limited effects of COVID-19 on the churches due to the use of online facilities of the churches. The strength of the church is the lay leaders, but many of the leaders are aging. Many Senior Pastors are retiring.
America: Shut down churches for some months. Churches that defied the government kept their attendance. There was more boldness among the churches as a result.
Japan: Churches learned how to use the online facility for church activities. It helped in evangelism. Several people who do not go to church were saved through the online ministry. Online ministry saved a lot of money that was otherwise used for face-to-face meetings. However, friendliness was lost as a result of the online fellowship. Challenge of pastoral care.
India: Total lockdown was imposed for three months. We began using the internet later. After the lockdown, meeting attendance went down. Pastors’ support was affected, and their families suffered. 500 pastors died from COVID-19 all over India. The Ministry happened through cell phones. Strengths: gospel meetings to equip them.
Philippines: Tribal churches kept meeting in congregations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rural churches had difficulty meeting for worship. Online capabilities were not available.
Myanmar: The representatives shared, but the details were not captured for this report.
SHARING OF RESOURCES AND PRAYER: Additional discussion and prayer took place.
